Stick with your goal. One way that leaders tend to fail is that they “switch sides” when things get tough. Try to stick with the goals you’ve established, and do what you can to stay on one path until completion. You may have to eventually change paths, but do so carefully and avoid doing it too much. Constantly changes paths can make you appear confused and undetermined to others.

When you’re a business leader, you should try to treat your team or staff in the way that you’d like to be treated. Looking down on people isn’t right and doesn’t promote a good work atmosphere. If you treat you show your staff respect, they will return the favor which can make your life much easier.

Own your words. Good leadership is about taking responsibility for the things you do or say. In your company everything begins with you, and what you do and say is how your business is perceived. Take responsibility for your mistakes and learn from them. Do not rely on others to fix your mistakes.

Write well. Leadership is about more than your vision and your manner. It has to do with how good you are with words. If your writing is full of grammar or spelling errors, people may not take you seriously. Keep this in mind and be careful on how and what you write.

When coordinating the efforts of more than one group, it’s easy to get caught up in the us-versus-them mentality. Unfortunately, this way of thinking breeds unhealthy competition, resentment, and conflict. Focus instead on identifying a single goal or purpose that is shared by all parties. Emphasize the shared benefits of meeting these goals to improve motivation all around.
